MarQuerite Hamden born in The Netherlands with her roots in Suriname, moved to NY in 2000.
She loves to collaborate with other artist and create projects that she believes in and where she can bring all of herself as an artist to the table. MarQuerite lives in Brooklyn with her husband David and her children Umi, Nalo and Taiyou.

She has blessed the stage throughout NY and beyond. Performances include: Brooklyn Prospect Park Bandshell, SOB’s and Joe’s pub. Co-choreographed a movement piece called “Woman’s worth “at BAAD Festival in the Bronx and Dance New Amsterdam in Manhattan. In a Haitian Dance theater piece called “Remembering Ginen” at Roulette Brooklyn, and at the Usdan Center for the creative and performing arts. Part of Brown Girls Burlesque as Sunshine Fayalicious . Her most memorable pieces were “Black Butterfly “ during Women's History month , 8.5 months pregnant with her first child Umi. And Culture Classic piece “Alien” , 2 months pregnant with her son Nalo at Kumble Theater Long Island University. She now has three children with the addition of her son Taiyou born October 2015.
Marquerite has been a core member of Playback NYC an improvisational theater company since 2000. Most of the work based in conflict resolution. They have toured domestically and internationally schools, prisons, hospitals, worked with the red cross, 9-11 family members, city parks summer performances, themed performances at the Ohio Theater and The Shakespeare Festival in Ashland Oregon.

Through her 17 years of being in and pursuing her passions in her second home that is NY, MarQuerite took on some private chef gigs as well as catering for different events such as Full Moon Solstices, film set and Fundraisers.
MarQuerite is co owner of Ecowrist, a lifestyle brand, that she started with her husband David Gandy, and founder of the Together We Are Timeless Movement. A platform focused on Building a global community of greater inclusivity, visibility and where creative workshops, performance and wellness are the core to our existence!

My Story In Poem

The story began
All the way in Amsterdam
This little girl was always dancing and singing
And Making up stories that she was bringing
To her family and the crowd
Her mama’s love and hand she was able to understand through the world of food nurturing her soul
Like the beautiful Surinamese Fayalobi flower blossoming brightly but contained in a glass bowl
Performing in different places and spaces for her voice to be heard
Moving them in a way that told her: stay and hold on tight never let go!
Designing and fashion, yes always been her thing
Creating beauty outward starts from within

Moving to NYC, she knew that was the place to be
To grow, build and follow her heart
Left her base that tore her apart
Rooted and found stability in creative expression through her improvisational theater community
Healing, resolutions, transformation, building community
The power of music, poetry and dance by chance through these untold stories
We just want to be heard, seen.....
Traveling the different parts of the world with her growing family band
Led by food, wellness and performance art
